Part of the purpose of the pilot project was to find out what materials and configurations worked best while withstanding the rigors of existence within the surf zone. It was found that polypropylene mesh has very high wear resistance, is low maintenance requirements, and is environmentally stable. The current system which utilizes a heavy-duty polypropylene geogrid, has outperformed all other experimental materials , particularly under high-energy surf conditions. The conclusion was, that the geogrid material that the key element that distinguishes our system from all the others that it allows NuShore to have the durability and effectiveness needed for effective beach reclamation.
No failures from wear have occurred with the current configuration. The Polymer geogrid is robust and storm resistant. The individual panel configuration makes for easy installation and maintenance and facilitates the periodic raising of the mesh as sand is built up.
