Traditional groins completely cut off the littoral sand supply moving down the beach. The result of a traditional groin is updrift impoundment of sand with downdrift erosion. Traditional groins are more cumbersome and costly to install and remove than the NuShore System. The NuShore Porous Groyne System allows sand to flow through, eliminating the problems of traditional groins.
