Part of the purpose of the pilot project was to find out what materials and configurations worked best while withstanding the rigors of existence within the surf zone. It was found that nylon mesh was untenable from a wear, maintenance, and even environmental standpoint. The following pages show the various design configurations used over the course of the experiment. The current system, utilizing a heavy-duty polypropylene geogrid, has outperformed any other material we’ve tried, particularly under high-energy surf conditions. We feel the geogrid material is the key element that distinguishes our system, and allows NuShore to have the durability and effectiveness needed for proper beach reclamation.
No failures due to wear have been exhibited with the current configuration. The Polymer geogrid is robust and storm resistant. The individual panel configuration makes installation and maintenance easy, and facilitates the periodic raising of the mesh as sand is built up. NuShore Groynes are available in any color.
