Beach nourishment is the current erosion control method of choice for many coastal communities. However, beach nourishment has a number of drawbacks:
- Once placed on the beach, the quality of sand is often substandard or even darker in color, despite assurances otherwise. Not so with NuShore.
- Quality sand sources are becoming more difficult to locate. The problem will only get worse as sources are depleted, and quality sand even more expensive.
- Dredging of sand often sucks sea turtles directly off the sea floor, killing them. Our system has no effect at all on turtles or their reproduction activities.
- Beach nourishment is a sudden, disruptive and unnatural process.
- It’s expensive.
